Bisphenol A (BPA) production plant consists of phenol and bisphenol A productions. It is the first plant in process chain within the PJSC “Kazanorgsintez” conversion. Main products of the plant are Bisphenol A, phenol and acetone. Main feedstocks are propylene and benzene.

PRODUCTION METHODS

Phenol and acetone are produced by cumene method from benzene and propylene. Phenol is used for production of caprolactam, diphenylpropane, medicines, synthetic resins, plasticizers and herbicides.

Acetone is used for production of acetic anhydride, acetonecyanhydrine, diphenylolpropane and as a solvent in different industrial applications.

PRODUCTION FEATURES

Today Bisphenol A production Plant is the most recent plant among the operating plants of PJSC “Kazanorgsintez”. Its construction has been performed during two years. At the beginning of October, 2004 OJSC "Kazanorgsintez" together with JSC "TAIF" signed the Contract for purchase of license and basic design for Bisphenol A production with Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd (Japan). And on 27th of October 2007 the Plant began commercial output of target product - Bisphenol A - as pellets.

Bisphenol A, according to this method, is produced by condensation of phenol and acetone in presence of catalyst, which is a cation-exchange resin.

Bisphenol A produced according to this process is marked by high purity.

The main feed stock for Bisphenol A production is phenol and acetone produced at PJSC “Kazanorgsintez”.

BISPHENOL A APPLICATION

The basic application of Bisphenol A will be polycarbonate production at PJSC “Kazanorgsintez” (85-90%).

The second way of Bisphenol A application will be epoxide resins production, which are used for paint-and-lacquer materials and powder coating, glues, electronic card items.

The other fields of Bisphenol A applications are polysulfone resins, polyarylate resins, special phenolic resins, polyester imidic resins, unsaturated ester resins, bromated combustion inhibitors and stabilizers for different polymers.
